contour bowl

Laser cut plywood, glued and varnished to make a fruit bowl.

I went through a phase of playing around with lines similar to topographic maps and extruding them in Google SketchUp. I created a bunch of interesting abstract forms and thought it would be great to see what it looks like made into a bowl.

This is how it arrived from Ponoko (an oline laser cutting service). Just matter of putting one layer on top of the other.

Glued together and varnished, this is how it looks. The laser cutting process creates burned edges on the plywood. I liked the contrast that it created, so I decided not to sand it off.

The contours of the bowl are designed complement the shapes of the fruit. This is a present to my mum and dad.
