10,000 Matchsticks, 4 months work, up in smoke under a minute

The second in my series of typographic tributes. This time it is for the inventor of the modern day matchstick, John Walker.  Of course, I had to set it alight.

While Walker was preparing a lighting mixture on one occasion, a match which had been dipped in it took fire by an accidental friction upon the hearth. He at once appreciated the practical value of the discovery, and started making friction matches.

37 packets of Blu Tack. 2.775 Kilograms. $88.80.

n 1970, laboratory researcher Alan Holloway was working for sealant manufacturer Ralli Bondite of Waterlooville, England. Holloway inadvertently produced a product that was useless as a sealant, but pliable and semi-elastic.

 

I ended up using 37 packets of Blu Tack. 2.775 Kilograms and $88.80 all up.
