This is the first piece in my dot-to-dot transformation series.

It is available on my online store as a limited edition A3 print (11.7 x 16.5 in). You will receive the print with just the dots and numbers. All you need is a pen, the ability to count numbers and a pen.

It is one of the most remarkable transformations of an individual in history and I can think of no one better to launch my latest transformation series of dot-to-dot drawings with.

I visited my friends at Nicholson Street to trial it on. I gave them no information on what it was they were drawing an image of. It was fun to see them trying to work it out as they took turns creating it.

I have always had in interest in 3D, but never really had the patience to dedicate big chunks of time to these intensive applications. I had heard about a far simpler program called Google Sketchup and decided to give it a shot.

I took the lyrics from one of my favourite songs – Jesus Etc, by Wilco – and made this abstract looking typography.

I liked the result, so decided to get it printed really big on canvas.

The unofficial world record for the most complex dot-to-dot drawing.

A common theme in my work is where I use very basic techniques to create pieces that appear to be very complex. Dot-to-dot drawings are one of the most basic forms of art – all you need is the ability to count. By carefully placing 6,239 dots, I spent 9 hours connecting them all in my version of the Mona Lisa.

This is what 6,239 dots look like. It took me about 9 hours to connect them all up.

I used a different colour for the dots after every 400 to make things easier for me.

I used a webcam to create my timelapse video.

I scanned in the final result and am offering limited edition A2 prints of it on my online store.

The dots connect – trust me

As an experiment, I decided to publish a free PDF download of a dot-to-dot drawing in my store. I created this piece shortly after the passing of Steve Jobs.

Normally I like to show people the result and the various stages of the dot-to-dots. But this time, I kept it a secret and only show what it looks like uncompleted. I had no idea if anyone would blindly give it a go, but to my surprise I started receiving emails from people who completed it. Below are some of the results.

The most interesting example so far was created by Kate Davis who got creative and decided to stitch one with silver thread. I was blown away when I saw this.
